Ardville Stud is run by the Somerville family in the beautiful rural surroundings of Belleek, Co Fermanagh. Jane & Ernie, along with their sons David & Ethan, specalise in native, part-bred and performance ponies and in addtion to breeding them are also regulars on the showing circuit.
The entire family has worked with ponies all their lives. They have spent years perfecting their craft and the result is Ardville Stud and the champion stock that it produces. They regularly compete at National level and are currently experiencing an extremely successful showing season. Back in the day Jane trained with the world-renowned Iris Tellett in Dublin and has gone on to qualify as a BHS Assistant Instructor. She is the horse and pony secretary for Ballyshannon Show and is certified in Health & Safety and Child Protection. She is well respected in Equestrian circles and provides services such as breaking and breeding which allow her to utilise her skill and experience.
Ernie is presently undergoing a Judging course and as well as showing the Ardville Stock, he also judges the Connemara Classes. David & Ethan take after their parents and are both keen horsemen. With 50 acres of well managed pasture, indoor barn stables and a sand arena, our ponies thrive in a laid back and relaxed country environment. We specalise in foal and yearling sales preparation, weaning and handling of youngsters, rest and recuperation, breaking in, long term and permanent boarding, and foaling. We are currently Standing 2 Stallions at Stud, have 3 Resident Brood Mares, and welcome visiting Mares.
With our broodmares and stallions we aim to breed quality youngstock with good confirmation and movement, and over the years have bred some top draw stock. All our youngsters are well handled by the family as foals, are wormed and see the vet on a regular basis throughout their growing years.
Where posible the ponies are left out in the fields in a herd environment as we feel that this lets them grow and mature in a stress free atmosphere. However we also have indoor barn stables and a sand arena, and like to operate as a family where all family members participate in the upkeep of the ponies.
We have worked closely with Fermanagh Equestrian College and have built up strong community relations with fellow connemara pony breeders in Northern and the Republic of Ireland.
We have a guestbook on the site and would welcome any comments or suggestions you have about our ponies, or indeed any subject regarding the fabulous Connemara and Native Pony. The guestbook can be found here
